Best Hill Stations Around Kolkata – Part 1

The state of West Bengal is blessed with Nature’s wonderful ornaments such as confounding mountains and serene beaches, lively Jungles and large plateaus. If one prefers to be a tourist, then India is the paradise of nature’s beauty and Kolkata maybe is that pleasure’s gateway for these breathtaking destinations. To name a few hill station destinations for nature loving tourists:

1. Ayodhya Hills:

Only at a distance of 300 kms from Kolkata, this hill station is famous for its trekking and rock-climbing activities. Winter is the best time to enjoy its true beauty. Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, Jhilimili, Tata Steel Zoological Park, Dimna Lake and a few waterfalls like Barehipani Falls and Joranda Falls are nearby tourist spots.
To reach Ayodhya Hills, one must reach Purulia Railway station and then take a car or they can reach Bokaro Airport or Dhanbad Airport and then hire a car.

2. Simultala:

Not so technologically developed, Simultala is a nature loving tourist’s paradise. Situated in Bihar, rather a remote, serene place is nearly 400 kms away from Kolkata. There are a few places that seeks attention is simultala, such as Lattu Pahar, Haldi Falls, Leelabaran Falls, Siketia Ashram and Dharhara Falls. To reach Simultala one must take a train from Sealdah Railway station or Howrah Railway station. Or one can hire a car and enjoy a totally blissful road trip. Mostly calm and quiet, it offers a beautiful night view and nature’s blissful presence within reach to the tourists who know how to observe and feel.

3. Siliguri:

A definite stop for all hill lovers, Siliguri is a tourist’s paradise. Located in the southern part of the state, nearly 560 kms from Kolkata, it provides a wonderful glimpse of the Himalayan mountain range. Jaldapara wildlife sanctuary is a gorgeous attraction for jungle and animal lovers near Siliguri. It is well situated for every kind of transport. Through flight, one must reach Bagdogra airport, through train, one must reach the New Jalpaiguri railway station and one can self-drive or take a bus as well. October to March is the best time to visit this place.

4. Darjeeling- Kalimpong- Kurseong:

Situated close by, these 3 mesmerizing hill stations are breathtaking in their beauties of nature. Approximately 600-620kms away from Kolkata, each place has their own delicate form of natural beauty. Declared as a world heritage site, Darjeeling has a chilly weather throughout the year for its elevation. Both Kalimpong and Kurseong are serene, pristine places to spend 3 to 4 days in the company of hill and beauty. Best time to visit these places are anytime, but the rainy season. And reaching these hill stations is quite easy as well. One needs to take a flight to Bagdogra airport or reach the New Jalpaiguri railway station and hire a car preferably. With plenty of tourist attractions nearby, these places are enchanting for any nature lover.
